Concussion #2

I'm still wearing the bracelet from the ER...

Matt and I crashed heads around 1am last night. We were... uh, wrestling. Yea, wrestling. Anyway, it was one of those situations where you say "ouch," laugh, and move on. It wasn't until about an hour later that my vision went fuzzy and I couldn't form sentences. I couldn't find the words I needed, and I couldn't remember anything I had just said. I sat there with Matt for half an hour trying to talk through all the mental mess, fighting the urge to sleep, knowing I probably had a concussion. I can't explain how frustrating it was that I couldn't speak coherently.

I laid down on the bed once my speech returned, and finally agreed to let Matt call on mom once my arms started going numb. I was freaking out. What the hell was wrong with me? I guess my eyes were pretty dilated, so they packed me on out to the ER to get a CT scan done.

Just a concussion! My arms probably went numb from hyperventilating. You'd do it, too, if you were in my position. Don't make fun of me, gosh.

On a side note, we're having some isolated T-storms today, which means it smells like rain, and I don't have to water the garden. Booyah.

I woke up with the craziest headache today. I don't get migraines, but wow... this was a bad one. I got out of bed, nibbled on something so I didn't have to take pills on an empty stomach, and then soaked in the tub for 20 minutes or so, hoping for some relief. I came back to bed with sopping wet hair and a rag to cover my eyes. Poor Matt... He dealt with the hair, the wimpering, and the groaning really well, and he rubbed my back until I fell asleep.

I woke up feeling a lot better, but the headache was still there; it had just dissipated into a fog of absent-mindedness, but I still managed to make the Primerica Meeting with Jeff and Chelsea (they're my recruiters and old friends). We were there until about 10pm, which was a lot later than I had planned for, but it was still worth it. The people there are highly motivated and social, so I'm excited to be working in that environment. It'll take me out of the shell I've locked myself into, and hopefully earn me enough cash to move back out. If nothing else, I'm excited to learn about how the "money-game" works; how not to get ripped off, how to invest properly, and how to help educate people with what I know and offer really beneficial services to help them get out of debt. I go in for my pre-licensing education the weekend of June 6th, and I met the guy who teaches the class today. He seems fun, so hopefully the ten-hour days won't be quite as painful as I originally thought they might be.

Anyway, it's 2am and I just finished writing the worst paper I've ever written in my college career. My prof better not try to ask me to read my paper to the class tomorrow, 'cause there's just no way I'm gonna do it. I don't know... I just can't think today. Luckily, she offers revisions to people who turn in papers on time and don't like their grades. Looks like I'll be taking her up on that this time around...

Actually, I'm finally starting to get a hold on all of my homework. I'm still incredibly busy with it all and won't have any spare time until finals week is over, but I don't feel like it's an impossible load anymore.

The weather has been tubular, and the first corn seed has sprouted in our garden!

All rows and seeds/seedlings planted! Pictures coming soon - probably once the seedlings start popping out of the ground.

I've been recruited by a couple of old friends for a part-time job with Primerica, so I'm going through the training process now. I was a bit skeptical of the job at first, but I trust the people who have recruited me, and I've done a lot of research... Primerica seems to legitimately offer services that can help people. I'm excited!

And I'm also extremely overwhelmed with school. It's getting near the end and I'm soooo far behind. I'm going to be in turbo-mode for the next couple of weeks. I seriously can't wait for summer.

Garden Progress

Here are a few pictures of our progress in the garden this weekend. We're only about halfway finished with forming beds and planting, but then we have to buy and set up the chicken wire around the perimeter, as well as build trellising for the pole beans, tomatoes, and cukes.

It's about 60ft x 25ft:

The first rows and beds have been formed and planted. In the ground so far (in order from left to right): Five rows of corn, 1 bed for broccoli/cauliflower/cabbage, 1 bed for spinach and lettuce, and one row for pole beans. The climbing cuke and tomato beds have been formed but not planted.

And then yesterday I went out and dug trenches for the potato tubers. I planted them in the trenches and then covered them with about 4'' of dirt before watering.

Anywhere you see footprints are designated walkways. Matt made the plans for the plot with a little help from The Joy of Gardening. I think it's going really well, despite all of the stupid injuries. I swear... I can sprain my ankle from just standing still, and I thought that refraining from gloves in an effort to avoid a farmer's tan was a great idea until I formed a massive, painful blister on my hand. Lesson learned.

I'm so glad this is a three day weekend so Matt and I can finish the beds and planting on Monday. I still have loads and loads of homework to do, but all of the work is totally worth it. :)
